The City of Milwaukee announced a new COVID testing drive-thru location that opened on Oct. 11.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett tweeted about the testing drive-thru location and gave further specifications.

“Starting Monday, Oct. 11, a NEW @MKEhealth free drive-thru #COVID19 testing site will open at 2401 W. St. Paul Ave. The hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary,” Barrett wrote.

Aside from the new location, the city also has two other free drive-thru COVID testing locations, which both operate on Saturday at Southside Health Center and Northwest Health Center.

“Testing remains an extremely important element in our fight against the COVID-19 virus,” Barrett said in a press release. “Having a centrally located site helps us continue to provide free, accessible and convenient testing to the most residents.”

In Milwaukee County, 68.6% of adults (18 years and older) have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine with 56.2% of the county’s residents accounting for at least one dose.

“We are appreciative of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for contributing this centrally-located building for drive-thru testing,” said Milwaukee Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson. “Navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping Milwaukee residents safe is an all-hands-on-deck effort, and we’re incredibly grateful for all our community partners, such as the DOT and the Milwaukee Brewers, for stepping up and helping us fight this virus.”

The county’s seven-day average of new cases is 342 and as of Oct. 7, there were 28 COVID-19-related deaths for the past week in the city.
