Brewers right-hander Logan Henderson was placed on the 15-day injured list with a low back strain, the team announced May 26. Rookie pitcher Coleman Crow will rejoin the starting rotation and is scheduled to start Friday in Houston.

Henderson, 24, has posted a 2.23 earned run average in 10 Major League starts over the past two seasons but has struggled with injuries. He spent the final two months of last season on the injured list due to right elbow inflammation and was eased into action this spring. In five starts this season, Henderson is 2-1 with a 2.74 ERA. He last pitched against the Dodgers on Friday and reported back tightness that worsened over several days.

“I want to be out there,” Henderson said. “It’s certainly disappointing. I feel like I’m obviously letting the team down, and the fans down to a degree. We have a lot of depth, and it’s good knowing the guys are going to step up.” Manager Pat Murphy said, regarding Henderson’s recovery timeline, “Hopefully not, but it warranted [a roster move because] it hadn’t calmed down. They’ve done the MRI and they don’t think anything is bulging or anything like that, so they feel confident they can get it to calm down.” The Brewers plan to use a bullpen game for Wednesday afternoon’s series finale against St. Louis.

Crow, age 25 and ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 25 Brewers prospect, has performed well in previous spot starts at Miami and Minnesota this year. He most recently started for Triple-A Nashville last Friday and will be rested for his next Major League appearance.

In other injury updates provided by Milwaukee: Brandon Woodruff continues his recovery from an April velocity drop; he plans a live batting practice session next week instead of returning immediately as previously targeted by both player and club staff. Quinn Priester is scheduled for another rehab outing Wednesday as he returns from thoracic outlet syndrome; left-handed reliever Jared Koenig expects to begin a rehab assignment after completing his second live batting practice session; outfielder Brandon Lockridge has resumed light running following his knee injury earlier this month.

Lockridge commented on his progress, “[Monday] was the best day I’ve had… The first day running, I felt like I could barely cycle my legs through. I wouldn’t even call what I did the first day ‘running.’”
