Hartland, Wisconsin, police say six family members, including four children, found dead earlier this month after an apartment fire had been shot.
“This is a tragic incident for the family of the deceased, our first responders and the Hartland community,” Police Chief, Tom Misko, told Fox 6 Milwaukee.
Misko said several guns were found in the home and the investigation remains open.
The blaze broke out at a nearby four-unit apartment complex Oct. 21, according to another Fox 6 report. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found the bodies of six victims. Fifteen fire and nine police departments responded to the emergency and evacuated the occupants of the other units.
Police said a male victim appears to have died from a self-inflicted gun wound, adding that a flammable liquid not typically found in homes was also discovered at the scene, Fox 6 reported. Investigators said they have not determined if the incident is a case of murder-suicide or if the fire was set intentionally.
Investigators believe the time of death is close to the time they were called about the blaze, which was just after 5 a.m., according to Fox 6. A memorial is being constructed outside of the building in memory of the family.
The deceased are Connor McKisick, 34, Jessica McKisick, 33, Natalie Kleemeier, 14, as well as a 12-year-old girl and two 3-year-old boys, Fox 6 reported.
