Authorities are still searching for answers after the skeletal remains of a 32-year-old local man were recently discovered in an abandoned Milwaukee church.

“Subject has been identified as a 32-year-old male from Milwaukee,” Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Brian Peterson posted on Twitter. “Family has been notified. Thanks for all the help.”

Investigators said Michael Christopher Day’s cause of death remains undetermined, though the use of weapons has been ruled out and there were no obvious signs of drug use or trauma to the body.

Fox32Chicago reports that Day’s body was discovered on Aug. 10 in a bedroom above the old Genesis Missionary Baptist Church at MLK and Burleigh in Milwaukee by a YouTuber filming there. The individual then alerted police using the footage he had obtained. The Milwaukee Fire Department used a ladder to enter the building and retrieve the body.

WISN.com adds that police and medical examiners sent out pictures of the body’s rings along with a description of the body and his tattoos in asking for the public’s help, after not finding any identification on the body or any hits from early fingerprint analysis.

A set of photographs eventually identified Day, with tattoo records providing further confirmation.
