Luis Peña returned to action for High-A Wisconsin after missing a month due to severe dehydration, reaching base five times on May 29 in a 13-11 victory against Peoria at Neuroscience Group Field.
Peña, Milwaukee’s No. 2 prospect and ranked No. 19 overall by MLB Pipeline, went 2-for-3 with two singles, three walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base. One of his singles provided the go-ahead run during a seven-run seventh inning for the Timber Rattlers.
Peña had just completed a three-game rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League before rejoining Wisconsin. In his second game back, he contributed significantly as the team overcame a deficit in the late innings. After tying the game at seven in the bottom of the seventh inning with two walks and two singles, Peña singled to right field to give Wisconsin an 8-7 lead that they would not relinquish.
Through 14 games at High-A this season, Peña is batting .375/.492/.500 with one home run and nine RBIs. He has also drawn more walks (12) than strikeouts (10) and recorded seven stolen bases.
Despite his recent absence from play due to health issues, Peña continues to be recognized as an important infielder within Milwaukee’s farm system.
