Golden Cotton and Anthony Campbell set new records for the Milwaukee track and field team during the Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky. Cotton broke the 100m record twice, first with a time of 10.40 seconds in the preliminary heats and then with a 10.29 mark in the finals, securing fourth place. Campbell set a new long jump record with a leap of 7.77 meters (25’6″), surpassing the previous record by over five inches.

Head coach Andrew Basler commented on the team’s performance: “I don’t recall there being a better overall regular season weekend for our program than what we saw the last three days.” He noted that Cotton’s time could qualify him for the NCAA West Prelims and that Campbell’s jump likely secured his spot as well.

Dane Nelson finished third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.19 seconds, marking it as the sixth fastest in program history. Chris Hudnall placed sixth in the same event with a time of 14.37 seconds, ranking eighth historically for Milwaukee.

Jaelyn Reeves-Lile recorded Milwaukee’s third fastest 100m time at 10.58 seconds but narrowly missed advancing to the final heat, finishing in 11th place. Carter Eckhoff achieved Milwaukee’s seventh fastest 1500m time at 3:51.99, finishing sixth.

In the 400m race, Zac Schmidt and Caleb Henry tied for sixth place with times of 48.22 seconds each. Schmidt joined Milwaukee’s top-ten list at eighth position while Henry remains fifth with his personal best of 47.51 seconds from earlier this season.

The relay team consisting of Cotton, Schmidt, Reeves-Lile, and Anthony Kessler completed their race in 40.70 seconds, marking it as Milwaukee’s second fastest time ever and earning them third place.

Coach Basler expressed optimism about upcoming competitions: “Our team should be extremely excited coming off this strong weekend with the Horizon League Championships around the corner.”

The Panthers will next compete at the Horizon League Championships from May 3-5 in Rochester, Michigan.
