The Milwaukee Athletic Department announced on April 9 the launch of its annual “For the MKE” Athletics Giving Challenge, which will take place alongside the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s campus-wide “414 for UWM Giving Days” next week.
The challenge aims to support Panther student-athletes and enhance each varsity athletic program through a giving competition involving alumni, supporters, and fans. The campaign encourages participants to contribute directly to specific sports programs or broader funds that benefit all teams and student-athletes.
This year’s initiative features several matching opportunities from donors. For Men’s Basketball, Sue Riesch ’71, ’76 and Ric Soto ’70, ’72 will unlock $10,000 in scholarships when 25 donors participate. An anonymous donor has pledged $3,500 for Swimming & Diving if 40 donors give. Track & Field and Cross Country will receive $1,000 from an anonymous supporter once they reach 40 donors. For Women’s Basketball, Jen Greger ’97 along with Mark and Shawn Geinopolos will match the first $5,000 donated.
Supporters are encouraged to direct their gifts during the challenge period from Monday, April 13 through Tuesday, April 14. Contributions can also be made to general funds such as the Bud K. Haidet Hall of Fame or the Panther Excellence Fund.
The Milwaukee Panthers women’s track and field team participates in both indoor and outdoor competitions throughout their season according to the official website. The team is part of NCAA Division I athletics within the Horizon League as indicated by university sources and plays a role in supporting student-athletes’ academic as well as athletic responsibilities as noted by school officials. Operating out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin according to university information, they contribute significantly to the school’s athletic legacy per university records.
Questions regarding participation can be directed to Zach Beaschler at beaschle@uwm.edu.
