The Milwaukee cross country teams are set to compete in the Phoenix Open in Green Bay on Friday at 4:00 p.m. This marks their second consecutive week traveling north after participating in last Saturday’s event at Green Bay’s Shorewood Cross Country Course. The Panthers aim to replicate their previous success, where the women’s team secured first place among ten teams and the men’s team achieved second place out of eleven.

Despite being held at the same location, this week’s event presents a new challenge. Last week, the women competed in a 5k race and the men in a 6k race. This time, both teams will face championship-length races of 6k for women and 8k for men.

Anelise Egge, who finished first with a time of 19:02.0 at last week’s Tom Barry Invitational, will lead the women’s team. Top performers Cailin Kinas and Rachel Helm also aim to make an impact on the longer course following strong season openers. Newcomers Joely Overstreet, Isabella Switalski, and Hallie Hoger will seek to build on their impressive debuts.

On the men’s side, Carter Eckhoff aims to continue his leadership after finishing second with a time of 19:14.4 last week. Sam Schreiber looks to maintain his momentum following a personal best that earned him fifth place. Freshman Nathan Powley is expected to deliver another solid performance after an outstanding collegiate debut.

Following this meet, the Panthers will take a break next week before traveling to Terre Haute, Indiana on September 21 for Indiana State’s John McNichols Invitational.
