The Milwaukee women’s track and field team competed in the Horizon League Indoor Championships at Purdue Fort Wayne, ending the first day in third place with 32 points. They trail Purdue Fort Wayne by five points, while Youngstown State leads with 76 points.

Anna Szepieniec set a new program record by winning the pentathlon with 3864 points. This surpasses the previous record of 3764 set by Natalie Block in 2022 and breaks the Horizon League Indoor Championship Meet record of 3756 set by Shelby Schaal in 2012.

Kallie Volk secured a third-place finish in the pentathlon with 3601 points, placing her fifth on Milwaukee’s indoor leaderboard for this event. Szepieniec also qualified for the final round of the 60m hurdles and finished fifth in the long jump.

Dominique Thomas led the preliminary round of the 60m dash with a time of 7.57 and advanced to the finals of the 200m dash with a time of 25.18. In the 400m dash, Katie Burns recorded a top time of 57.35, followed by Leah Handshoe who finished fourth at 57.89, both advancing to finals.

Anelise Egge placed third in her event with a performance of 2:21.52, securing her spot in Sunday’s finals as well. In pole vaulting, Hailey Soriaga and Isabel Roloff each cleared heights of 3.56m.

The Distance Medley Relay team composed of Ally Schmitz, Taylor Thimmesch, Rachel Helm, and Cailin Kinas finished third at a time of 12:13.37.

The championship meet continues tomorrow starting at 8:00 a.m., featuring heptathlon events and other competitions including high jump, triple jump, shot put, and mile run. The events will be broadcast on ESPN+ starting at noon Central Time.
