The Milwaukee men’s cross country team participated in the Horizon League Championships held in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Saturday. Carter Eckhoff led the Panthers by finishing 28th with a time of 25:44.6. Sam Schreiber followed closely, securing 32nd place with a time of 25:55.9.

Lucas Picco completed the course in 26:18.4, earning him 50th place. Cullen Boyle finished in 54th place with a time of 26:24.7, while Will Whiteis rounded out the scoring for Milwaukee, finishing in 58th place with a time of 26:28.3.

“In a championship race, you have to be willing to take risks and put yourself in a good position at the start,” said head coach Andrew Basler. “We did not execute that at all today, and the team results showed.”

The Panthers concluded the competition ninth out of ten teams with a total score of 207 points.

“Our men were more than capable to finish top four based on how they have been running all season,” Basler added. “The silver lining is we are better than what the results showed, and we know this. I fully expect adjustments will be made heading into the Great Lakes Regional and into track season.”

Looking ahead, the Panthers are set to compete at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships in Norton, Ohio, on Friday, November 15. The meet will be hosted by the Mid-American Conference.

Top performers from regional events across the nation will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will take place at the University of Wisconsin’s Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Verona.
