The Milwaukee Panthers men’s track and field team concluded its regular season at the Panther Tune-Up, held Saturday at the Klotsche Center. This event served as the final competition before the Horizon League Indoor Championships.
“Momentum at the right time of the season can have a major impact,” said head coach Andrew Basler. “Across the board today, we gained a ton of momentum as we head to the Horizon League Championships next weekend.”
In field events, Josh Cygan won the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 17.58 meters, moving him to fourth all-time in program history for that event. In high jump, Tyler Dahlie and Ty Bauschelt both cleared 2.00 meters to finish first and second, respectively.
Kyril Griffin achieved a personal best in triple jump with a mark of 14.46 meters for first place, while Dahlie took third with his own career-best of 14.05 meters. Anthony Buford recorded a career-best long jump of 7.50 meters, which places him third in school history for that event. Liam Richards, competing unattached, finished fourth with an indoor best of 7.13 meters.
“We gained great momentum from many events,” Basler added. “In Long Jump, defending outdoor champ Anthony Buford is hitting on all cylinders at the right time. Freshman Tyler Dahlie connected on some technique he has been working on and had a great day in high jump and triple jump. In the ring, Josh put out another personal best in the weight.”
Trevor Boyer was runner-up in pole vault after clearing 4.30 meters.
On the track, four Panthers set personal records in the mile run: Harper Fahey (second place, 4:15.76), Sam Schreiber (third place, 4:15.81), Aidan Sosnowski (fourth place, 4:19.07), and Zach Moss (fifth place, 4:21.59). Mason Weaver secured second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.28 seconds.
Cullen Boyle placed third in the 3000-meter run with his season-best time of 8:48.73; Sam Blascyk and Will Perez also posted new career marks in this event.
The meet concluded with Wade Duffek, Karsten Grundahl, Harper Fahey, and Zach Moss winning the 4×400 relay by more than thirteen seconds over their nearest competitors.
“Overall, we have a lot of momentum heading into the championships,” Basler said in closing remarks. “Both teams will be fighting for hardware, which is the standard we have at Milwaukee.”
The Panthers are scheduled to compete next at the Horizon League Indoor Championships hosted by Youngstown State from February 28 to March 1 in Youngstown, Ohio.
The Milwaukee Panthers men’s track and field team competes as part of NCAA Division I within the Horizon League and represents the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The team participates in both indoor and outdoor meets throughout its season while supporting student-athletes academically and athletically as part of the university’s athletic tradition based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
