The Milwaukee women’s tennis team has secured the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Horizon League Championship. They will face off against Northern Kentucky, seeded fifth, on Friday, April 26. The match is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. CT at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Originally scheduled for a later start, all matches have been moved up due to weather concerns, allowing quarterfinals to be played outdoors. The Panthers currently hold a record of 9-11 overall and are 3-3 in the Horizon League this season. Their recent victory over Northern Kentucky was decisive, with a score of 5-2 on April 20.

The tournament will take place at the Dennis J. and Mary Lou Schwartz Tennis Center, which opened in 2006 and also serves as the home court for Purdue’s tennis teams. The facility features both indoor and outdoor courts and includes amenities such as locker rooms, administrative offices, an athletic training room, and seating areas for fans.

Northern Kentucky ended their regular season with a record of 5-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Their recent losses include matches against Milwaukee and Chicago State. Sylvia Gray and Ananya Kothakota lead their team in singles victories with records of 11-7 and 11-8 respectively.

Historically, Milwaukee won its only regular-season Horizon League Championship in the spring of 2013-14 with a record of 7-1. In previous championships, they reached the finals two years ago but were eliminated in last year’s semifinals.

The winner between Milwaukee and Northern Kentucky will advance to face Cleveland State, who is top-seeded after finishing league play with a record of 5-1. Semifinals are set for Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. CT.
