Amare Hereford has signed with the Milwaukee men’s basketball team and will join the Panthers for the next season, head coach Bart Lundy announced on Apr. 16.
Hereford is recognized as one of the top senior basketball players in Wisconsin and was a finalist for the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association’s “Mr. Basketball” award after his standout career at Beloit Memorial High School.
Lundy said, “Amari will be a star here at Milwaukee. He will be a fan favorite from the beginning. He is a complete basketball player but probably has as good of an ability to score as I’ve seen in any high school player. He is a great student and a great worker and completely fits our culture. We are so excited that he will represent the city of Milwaukee and the state and especially his hometown of Beloit.”
During his senior year, Hereford led Beloit Memorial to a 24-3 record, helping secure a No. 2 seed in the WIAA Division 1 playoffs while leading all scorers statewide with an average of 37.5 points per game. In his final game at the state tournament, he scored 49 points and finished as Beloit Memorial’s all-time leading scorer.
Hereford also posted shooting percentages above 60 percent from the field, nearly 45 percent from three-point range, and over 80 percent from free throws during his final season while averaging 8.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 3.9 steals per game for Beloit Memorial.
The Milwaukee Panthers men’s basketball team represents University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee athletics according to its official website. The program competes in NCAA Division I within the Horizon League as reported by its official website and operates out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin according to its official website.
Looking ahead to next season, Hereford brings strong scoring skills along with experience creating shots for himself on offense after receiving offers from several programs before choosing Milwaukee.
