The Milwaukee Panthers men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to participate in two separate competitions this weekend, with some athletes traveling to the Duke Invitational in Durham, North Carolina from April 9-11, while others will remain local for the Marquette Invitational on April 10-11.
These upcoming meets provide opportunities for student-athletes to showcase their skills as part of the athletic tradition at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Panthers compete in NCAA Division I as members of the Horizon League and balance academics with athletics according to their official website.
At their most recent competition, the Ashton May Invitational hosted by UW-La Crosse, several Panther athletes delivered notable performances. Anna Szepieniec and Brooke Crosby took first and second place respectively in the preliminaries of the women’s 100-meter hurdles, with Crosby winning the finals at a time of 14.79 seconds. In sprints, Katie Burns finished third in the women’s 100-meter dash finals (12.49), while Isabel Roloff and Angelica Refinski placed fifth (12.79) and sixth (12.81). Burns also recorded a time of 24.52 seconds in the women’s 200-meter dash, placing her tenth all-time for Milwaukee.
Field events saw Olivia VanZeeland win high jump with a clearance of 1.71 meters—currently leading all Horizon League competitors—and Nevia Levenhagen secured first place in long jump at 5.72 meters. Emma Johnson reached sixth all-time for Milwaukee after clearing 3.77 meters in pole vault.
On the men’s side, Zach Moss won the men’s 1500-meter run with a personal best time of 15:30.80; Aidan Sosnowski was runner-up at 15:38.82; Matt Scardina placed top-five in both sprints; Brendan Vlasak finished second overall after improving his time to 14.91 seconds during finals of the men’s hurdles event.
The team has achieved eight placements within its top-10 record books this outdoor season across various events including sprints, hurdles, pole vault, discus throw, hammer throw, and middle-distance races.
Looking ahead beyond this weekend’s competitions—which take place both locally from Milwaukee where they operate according to their official website as well as regionally—the Panthers plan another dual-meet schedule that includes travel to Terre Haute for Indiana State’s Gibson Invite alongside participation at UW La Crosse’s Phil Esten Challenge.
