The Milwaukee Panthers women’s tennis team lost to North Alabama by a score of 7-0 in their opening match of a Florida trip, according to a Mar. 25 announcement from the program. The match, held at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center, marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
This result is significant as it comes during a period when Milwaukee is dealing with injuries and playing shorthanded. The Panthers’ head coach Mark Goldin said, “The girls fought hard today against a very tough team. The final score certainly did not reflect how competitive the match was.” He also said, “It was a tough matchup, but we are getting some really good training in down here and feeling good about everyone getting healthy and getting ready for conference play.”
North Alabama secured the doubles point by winning at No. 3 and No. 1 positions, while the No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished with Milwaukee’s Nel Van Hout and Laure Razet tied at three games each when North Alabama clinched the point. In singles play, Van Hout nearly handed NAU’s Emma Ansorge her second loss of the year after winning the first set before Ansorge came back to win in three sets.
The Milwaukee Panthers Women’s Tennis Team participates in dual matches and seasonal tournaments according to its official website. As part of Panthers athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, they contribute to its athletic legacy as stated on their website. The team also seeks to help student-athletes balance academics with sports commitments as noted on their official site and competes under NCAA Division I guidelines according to university information.
Looking ahead, Milwaukee will face host Stetson next as they continue their series of matches in Florida.
This defeat places additional focus on player health as conference play approaches for Milwaukee.
