The Milwaukee Panthers women’s track and field team competed in two separate meets on May 1, with athletes participating at Wisconsin’s Badger Invite and Illinois’ Gary Wieneke Memorial.
The team’s participation highlights the range of competitions undertaken during their season. The Panthers engage in both indoor and outdoor events throughout the year, according to the official website.
At the Gary Wieneke Memorial in Urbana-Champaign, Katie Burns finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 24.31 seconds, which is now sixth-best in program history. Angelica Refinski placed ninth with a personal record of 24.89 seconds, while Victoria Evtimov was seventeenth at 25.52 seconds. Victoria Spagnola recorded a personal best of 1:01.88 in the 400-meter hurdles for fourth place, ranking ninth all-time for Milwaukee.
Meanwhile at Madison’s Badger Invite, Nevia Levenhagen took second place in long jump with an outdoor career-best mark of 5.89 meters—eighth best for Milwaukee historically—and added third place in triple jump (11.43 meters). Lauren Wickus cleared a career-high of 1.64 meters to finish runner-up in high jump; she also finished sixth overall (5.33 meters) in long jump alongside Kara Meeteer who placed seventh (5.33 meters). Claudia Conner led shot put efforts at 11.48 meters while Nolie Anderson and Mercedes Herrera threw discus distances of 41.51 and 38.18 meters respectively.
Isabel Roloff finished eighth in the Badger Invite’s 100-meter dash (12.15 seconds), with Lilly Wepking completing it at 12.81 seconds before running seventh-place time (26.41) over the same day’s 200-meter dash event.
Three Panthers cracked javelin’s top ten: Kallie Volk threw for sixth place (33.01m), Kara Meeteer had her season best (32.39m), and Anna Szepieniec posted a personal record (31.98m). Emma Johnson cleared second-place pole vault height at 3.70m; Hailey Soriaga, Isabel Roloff, and Ella Laughbaum each reached marks of 3.55m.
Eileen Tocco clocked a time of 4:48:09 for the women’s1500 meter race; Janiyah Taylor followed closely behind at 4:49:84.
The Panthers are part of NCAA Division I athletics as well as members of the Horizon League according to their official website. The program operates out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin according to their official website, contributing to both athletic legacy and student-athlete support by helping participants balance academic responsibilities alongside sports commitments as noted on their official site.
Looking ahead, Milwaukee will continue competition on Saturday during day two at Illinois’ Gary Wieneke Memorial meet.
