Milwaukee Public Schools will engage students in activities and programs throughout March to celebrate Women’s History Month. These initiatives aim to highlight the achievements of women who have made significant contributions across various fields. Students at different educational levels will study influential figures such as Cleopatra, Marie Curie, Grace Hopper, and Madam C. J. Walker.

The state of Wisconsin also boasts several notable women whose accomplishments are worth recognizing. Among them are Debra Amesqua, the first female fire chief in Madison; Laurel Clark, a U.S. Navy captain and NASA astronaut; Lorraine Hansberry, playwright of “A Raisin in the Sun”; Mildred Fish-Harnack, a historian and Nazi resistance fighter; Ho-poe-kaw, a Ho-Chunk chief; Georgia O’Keeffe, a 20th-century artist; Danica Patrick, a professional auto racing driver; and Vel Phillips, an attorney, judge, activist, and former Secretary of State for Wisconsin.

“Throughout March, celebrate Women’s History Month! Take some time to learn about and reflect upon trailblazing females who helped change the world in a multitude of ways.”
