The Milwaukee track and field teams will compete at the Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships from May 8 to May 10, according to a May 7 announcement. The event is hosted by Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, at the Elaine Leigh Track & Field Complex. Events are scheduled to begin Friday at 11:00 a.m. Central Time and can be streamed on ESPN+.
The upcoming championship follows recent performances at Illinois’ Gary Wieneke Memorial in Urbana-Champaign and Wisconsin’s Badger Challenge in Madison. On the men’s team, Anthony Buford finished second in the long jump with a season-best of 7.24 meters and set a personal record of 21.98 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Ty Bauschelt placed third in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 47.20 seconds, which leads the Horizon League this season and ranks fifth all-time for Milwaukee.
Other notable results include Josh Cygan’s continued success in discus events, as well as strong showings from Tim Maidment, Alexander Maggit, Tyler Dahlie, and Bradyn Thomas across various jumping disciplines. For the women’s team, Katie Burns was runner-up in the 400-meter dash (55.40) and posted a career-best time of 24.31 seconds in the 200-meter dash—sixth fastest in program history—while Victoria Spagnola recorded one of Milwaukee’s top ten times ever (1:01.88) for the women’s 400-meter hurdles.
Several athletes have earned Horizon League Athlete of the Week honors during this outdoor season: Ty Bauschelt (Runner of the Week), Sam Schreiber (Runner of the Week), Josh Cygan (Field Athlete of the Week), Anthony Buford (Field Athlete of the Week), Natalie Block (Runner of the Week), Anna Szepieniec (Field Athlete of the Week), and Nevia Levenhagen (Field Athlete of the Week). The Panthers have secured twenty-two spots on their all-time top-10 lists across various events so far this outdoor season.
The Milwaukee Panthers Men’s Track and Field Team participates in indoor and outdoor meets during each season; contributes to athletic tradition; supports student-athletes balancing academics with athletics; competes as part of NCAA Division I within The Horizon League; operates out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and is affiliated with University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee—all according to the official website.
As they enter championship competition after several strong individual performances throughout their regular season schedule, observers will watch closely how these results translate into team standings over three days at Oakland.
