The Milwaukee VA Medical Center is set to rededicate the recently refurbished Lake Wheeler Pavilion. The restoration project was made possible by a donation exceeding $200,000 from the trust of the late Paul F. Hugo, alongside support from the Milwaukee Preservation Alliance. Hugo’s trust specified that the funds were “to be used solely for the renovation and preservation of historic buildings on the Milwaukee VAMC campus.”

The rededication event will include a Catholic Mass at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Protestant service at 10 a.m. A picnic will then take place at Lake Wheeler Pavilion, located just north of the main medical center.

Lake Wheeler Pavilion originally opened in 1987 and has been a space for healing and gatherings for veterans and VA staff. The recent refurbishment involved restoring the original red cedar, replacing the roof, and installing new fascia boards and gutters.
