Milwaukee women secure five spots on Horizon League academic team

0Comments

The Milwaukee Panthers women’s track and field team has achieved a notable accomplishment by securing five spots on the Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic Team, as announced by the Horizon League. This achievement positions Milwaukee at the forefront of the league, with no other program having more than three athletes selected.

The athletes recognized include Natalie Block, Cailin Kinas, Dominique Thomas, Kortnie Volk, and Tabitha Wechlo. Notably, Block has received her third all-academic honor following recognition in previous indoor seasons. She was named both the Alfreeda Goff Outdoor Track & Field Women’s Athlete of the Year and Women’s Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet at the Horizon League Championships. Her performances in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles have set program records for Milwaukee.

Cailin Kinas marks her second selection to the all-academic team after her performance in this year’s indoor season. At the Horizon League Championships, she set a new program record in the 3000m steeplechase.

Dominique Thomas receives her fourth consecutive all-academic selection despite an injury that prevented her from competing at this year’s championship meet. Her achievements include being named conference runner of the week after victories at an invitational event.

Kortnie Volk continues her streak with a third consecutive outdoor all-academic team nod. Her performances included scoring in multiple events at the championships and achieving one of Milwaukee’s top ten scores in heptathlon history.

Tabitha Wechlo earns her fifth consecutive all-academic honor across indoor and outdoor seasons since 2022. She achieved a program record mark in shot put at this year’s championships and will compete at NCAA West Regionals.

The Horizon League’s criteria for All-Academic consideration require student-athletes to maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher while meeting specific participation requirements.
