The Milwaukee women’s tennis team wrapped up their fall season with participation in the Horizon League Individual Championships in Cleveland, Ohio. The event took place at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion and was hosted by Cleveland State. All six teams from the league competed over three days, from Friday to Sunday.

The competition included a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw. Winners would qualify for the ITA Conference Masters Championship scheduled for November in San Diego, California. During the first two days, participants played two rounds of singles and one round of doubles matches. Championship Sunday featured finals for singles and semifinals and finals for doubles.

Milwaukee’s head coach Mark Goldin expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, noting improvements among players including three freshmen on the roster. “We still feel really good with the track we are on to be ready for spring,” he said.

In singles play, Nikola Nikolajeva and Emilia Durska advanced past the first round but faced tough opponents in subsequent matches. Nikolajeva defeated Oakland’s Martyna Piechowicz before losing to Cleveland State’s Tereze Vevere. Meanwhile, Durska overcame Josie Ward from Oakland.

In doubles competition, Milwaukee saw initial success as all pairs won their opening matches convincingly. However, they were unable to advance further as they faced strong competitors in later rounds.

Coach Goldin also shared a moment of pride when an official commended him on his team’s conduct: “I really felt happy about that and proud of the girls.”

The Panthers will resume action when their spring schedule begins in January.
