The Milwaukee women’s tennis program is embracing a unique family dynamic under the leadership of head coach Mark Goldin. The team, known for its diverse international roster, includes players from countries such as Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Latvia, France, Japan, and the Czech Republic.
“I just love the diversity on the team, mixing together all the different cultures,” said Goldin. “With everyone being so far away from home, I really advertise the program as a second tennis family here in Milwaukee, and it holds true.”
Goldin’s coaching staff is composed entirely of family members: his father Marty and his wife Maddy. Marty brings extensive experience from playing at the University of Wisconsin and professionally in Europe. He retired from property management but continues to contribute to tennis by giving lessons part-time.
“He brings great energy,” Mark noted about his father. “The girls love having him around. His passion is tennis.”
Maddy Goldin was a standout player during her college years at Milwaukee and now works part-time as a child therapist while assisting with coaching duties.
“I think the girls really respect her because she’s been in the situation that they’re in now and had a ton of success,” Mark said about Maddy’s influence on the team.
Mark Goldin has an impressive track record as well; he previously coached at Cardinal Stritch University where he led both men’s and women’s teams to numerous titles.
Despite challenges last season due to injuries among key players like Nikola Nikolajeva and Laure Razet, Goldin remains optimistic about future prospects for his team.
“I really truly believe we had the talent this year…to compete to win it,” he stated regarding their potential performance if not hindered by injuries.
Looking ahead to next season with minimal losses in senior players such as Giorgia Cavestro from Italy graduating soon — combined with maturing freshmen — there is hope for continued growth within this tight-knit group led by familial ties both on-and-off court environments alike
“I’m so lucky to have my dad and my wife,” expressed Goldin reflecting upon personal aspects involved too alongside professional endeavors achieved thus far throughout journey embarked upon together over years spent nurturing talents across generations within sport itself!
