As part of Milwaukee Public Schools’ efforts to ensure student safety, the district is organizing two lead-screening clinics in July. These clinics aim to determine if students have elevated levels of lead in their bloodstream.

The screenings are free and available to all students within the Milwaukee Public Schools system. Appointments are not required, allowing families to attend at their convenience.

The screenings will be conducted by Novir at both clinic locations. Parents or legal guardians must provide consent for children to be tested, with consent forms accessible at the clinics.

Lead screening involves a simple finger prick, from which a healthcare provider collects a few drops of blood for testing. Once completed, test results will be communicated to families.

The Milwaukee Health Department advises that all children undergo lead testing due to potential health risks associated with elevated lead levels. The test will help determine if a child’s lead exposure is within safe limits or if further monitoring or treatment is necessary.
