U.S. Senator Ron Johnson will hold a press conference with patients and families affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy who are losing access to the treatment ataluren, according to a statement released March 9. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10 at 2:00 PM Eastern Time in the Senate Swamp.

The press conference aims to highlight concerns from families and patients about maintaining access to existing treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Ataluren has been used for years by individuals with this condition, and its potential loss has prompted public attention.

Johnson will be joined by Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients and their families during the event. The press conference can be viewed live on X @SenRonJohnson and Rumble. Credentialed media are invited to RSVP via email.

Johnson has served as U.S. Senator from Wisconsin since first winning election in 2010, when he defeated Russ Feingold with 51.9% of the vote compared to Feingold’s 47%, according to official results. He was re-elected in 2016, again defeating Feingold with a margin of 50.2% to 46.8%. In his most recent campaign in 2022, Johnson won against Mandela Barnes with a narrow margin of 50.4% to Barnes’ 49.4%.

The upcoming press conference reflects ongoing debates over patient access to established medical treatments and may draw further attention from both policymakers and advocacy groups.
