Senator Ron Johnson has used his social media platform to criticize Congressional inaction on shutdown-related legislation and advocate for reforms he believes would improve the legislative process.

On March 15, 2026, Johnson posted: “Gee, I sure wish Congress had passed the Shutdown Fairness Act during the first Democrat shutdown — then TSA agents would be getting paid on time and these disruptions avoided.”

The following day, March 16, 2026, he outlined a series of proposals in another post: “3 common sense reforms for a broken and dysfunctional Congress:

1. Eliminate Shutdowns Act
2. Shutdown Fairness Act (pays all federal workers on time)
3. End the filibuster to pass legislation supported by a large majority of Americans”

On March 17, 2026, Johnson addressed election issues with this statement: “The sad reality is that Democrat senators oppose what 80% of Americans support because they want to make it easy to cheat in our elections — and that’s what we need to expose.”

Senator Ron Johnson has served as a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin since first winning election in 2010 against Russ Feingold with 51.9% of the vote compared to Feingold’s 47%. He was re-elected in both 2016 and 2022, defeating Feingold again in 2016 with a margin of 50.2% to 46.8%, and overcoming Mandela Barnes in the closely contested race of 2022 with a narrow victory at 50.4% over Barnes’ 49.4%.
