Senator Ron Johnson, a Republican from Wisconsin who has won three consecutive Senate elections since 2010, used his social media platform on October 7 and 8, 2025, to criticize the Biden administration and the FBI over recent actions involving congressional phone records.
In a post on October 7, Johnson wrote, “By now, it should be obvious that partisan leftists are the danger to our democracy. The latest example: Biden’s FBI went on a fishing expedition and subpoenaed the phone records of 9 members of Congress. This should shock and outrage every American. Unfortunately,”.
The following day, Johnson continued his criticism, stating, “The Biden FBI’s collection of congressional phone records is an outrageous violation of the separation of powers. But there is still much we don’t know. Who approved it? Who knew what — and when did they know it? Working with Chairman @ChuckGrassley and other senators, I”.
In another post on October 8, Johnson added, “What do Democrats want? Power. They will do anything to acquire and maintain power. The damage they’ve inflicted on our democracy is something Russia and China could only dream of achieving.”
Johnson’s remarks come amid ongoing debates in Washington regarding oversight and the boundaries between executive agencies and Congress. He has served as U.S. Senator since 2010, having won his seat in close elections against Russ Feingold in both 2010 and 2016, and defeating Mandela Barnes in 2022. In these races, Johnson secured narrow victories with just over 50% of the vote each time.
The situation regarding the FBI’s actions remains under scrutiny as lawmakers seek further information about who authorized the collection of congressional phone records and for what purpose.
