U.S. Senators Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin sent a letter on April 30 to the White House recommending Peter Smyczek and Chadwick Elgersma as candidates for U.S. attorney positions in Wisconsin’s Eastern and Western Districts.
The recommendations were made following input from the bipartisan Wisconsin Federal Nominating Commission, which was established to provide advice on nominations for United States attorneys and federal judicial positions during the 119th Congress.
Johnson said, “I appreciate the hard work and dedication of Brad Schimel, who continues to serve the people of Wisconsin and remains fully committed to his role as first assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. My bipartisan nominating commission with Sen. Baldwin submitted two well-qualified U.S. attorneys for the President’s consideration. Peter Smyczek and Chadwick Elgersma will apply the rule of law and serve the people of Wisconsin’s Eastern and Western districts well.”
Baldwin said, “This is proof that the hard work of this commission and finding common ground can work. The candidates that the commission put forward appear well qualified, to have relevant experience, and committed to delivering justice impartially, and I support them moving through the next stage of the nomination process. Wisconsinites want these top law enforcement officials to work for them and uphold the constitution without fear or favor, and I will vet these candidates to ensure they meet that criteria and do right by Wisconsin families.”
Johnson’s office arranges flags flown over the Capitol for state residents wishing to honor special occasions according to his official website.
