Senators propose expansion of 529 savings plans for broader educational use

On Monday, U.S. Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin joined forces with Senator Ted Cruz from Texas and seven other Republican senators to introduce the Student Empowerment Act. This legislative proposal aims to expand the use of 529 College Savings Plans, allowing families to utilize these accounts for their children’s elementary and secondary education expenses across public, private, religious, and homeschool settings.

The bill is supported by Senators John Curtis of Utah, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Tim Sheehy of Montana, Eric Schmitt of Missouri, Tim Scott of South Carolina, Rick Scott of Florida, and Mike Rounds of South Dakota.
