Two Milwaukee organizations have teamed up to have local students showcase their creativity through street art all while encouraging people to be safe behind the wheel.

The art, which can be found on the road in Harambee, was paid for with grants offered through the city. Milwaukee created the grant program to reduce and bring awareness to the dangers of reckless driving. Organizations can receive between $1,000 and $5,000 grants for their projects.

"The City's Reckless Driving Mini-Grant program has awarded $108,000 to 18 community organizations," Mayor Tom Barrett (D-Milwaukee) wrote in a July 26 tweet. "@SafeSoundInc worked with @AWE_Art4Kids and local students to paint four crosswalks in Harambee using themes of empowerment, diversity, love and unity to promote safe driving."

Safe and Sound is an organization created to unite residents and law enforcement within a community, specifically empowering the youth to create safer and more connected communities.

AWE Art for Kids is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing joy through art and creativity to children in Milwaukee. They use their art mobile trucks, workshops and events, and partner with other organizations like Safe and Sound to spear-head opportunities for expression.

The organizations came together to allow several children to paint their own works of art across some crosswalks in Harambee, Wisconsin.
