PRE-COURSE INFO
Basic understanding of respiratory disease processes is required.
There are no pre-course materials.
An education booklet will be distributed at the beginning of the class. Please bring a pen or pencil.
ATTIRE
Scrubs or business casual
Course does NOT provide certification for the PEDIATRIC patient population.
Course is NOT appropriate for the general public.
COVID-19 UPDATE:
**Class will still be held at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in person at the same time and location. You will enter at the Medical Office Building 1 and standard COVID-19 screen will be performed with each student at the door. DO NOT attempt to attend if you have any slight or similar symptoms. Each student will be given a facemask and wear is expected the entire class time as the hospital is following universal masking guidelines. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this unprecedented time.**
Upon completion of the 8-hour course, the participants will obtain a certification. The certification is required to apply for licensure from the State of Wisconsin to provide adult home ventilator services. The student must receive a minimum of 84% on multiple-choice exam and complete a hands-on competency on the skill sets taught during the course. Content for the written exam will be covered during the course by the instructors.
Certification requires to be renewed every 2 years. We offer recertification courses as well.
Course content includes brief lecture, presentations, competency checkoffs, and a multiple-choice exam on the following content:
1. Pulmonary Assessment
2. Physiologic concepts of normal ventilation and mechanical ventilation
3. Airway management and troubleshooting
4. Ventilator management and alarm troubleshooting
a. The course will cover basic concepts of mechanical ventilation not how to use a specific ventilator.
b. The learning of a specific ventilator should occur during the orientation of a new patient or facility.
5. Home equipment/oxygen therapy management

Credit card is the only method of payment.
Credit card information must be entered online at the time of registration. The coordinator cannot enter your information for you.

DIRECTIONS TO CLASSROOM
Class will be held within Medical Office Building 1 (MOB 1) in Meeting Room C & D located in the basement of the Medical Office Building 1 (MOB 1). You may take the Medical Office Building 1 (MOB 1) elevators to the basement and follow signs to Meeting Room C & D.
Alternatively, follow the Grey Diamonds on the first floor to the North Building. Take the North Building elevators to the basement and follow the signs to Meeting Room C & D.
CLASS DETAILS
Class will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. If participant is more than 10 minutes late, arrangements will need to be made for rescheduling. The content of this course is very detailed thus does not allow for late participants.
The hospital cafeteria is available during the provided breaks for food and beverage.
CANCELLATION INFORMATION: Cancellations must be received and confirmed no later than 72 hours prior to class date otherwise fees will not be refunded. Registrant has a ONE-TIME option of applying the prepaid fee to a different ventilator class. Fees are nonrefundable for "no show" registrants or day of class cancellations. Exceptions must be approved by the class administrator and Manager of Respiratory Services. Please send facilitator a message with questions to receive the fastest response
