New Report Details Uneven Job Recovery In Wisconsin

The job recovery continues in Wisconsin – but not evenly across industries.

According to a new report from the Wisconsin Policy Forum, some sectors such as clothing stores have job numbers still far below 2019 levels, while others like warehousing and storage are far above – a result, the report says, of the rise in online commerce.

The report continues:

Other sectors, such as healthcare and social assistance, fared relatively well during the early months of the pandemic but showed declines in late 2021 that raise potential concerns – especially given the state’s aging population.

According to Lightcast job posting data, the top 5 jobs in highest demand in Southeast Wisconsin during the last six months have been: 

  1. Registered Nurses (8,900 postings)
  2. Sales Representatives (5,600 postings)
  3. Laborers and Stock/Material Movers (4,900 postings)
  4. Software Developers (4,900 postings)
  5. Retail Salespersons (4,700 postings)
