WASHINGTON– On Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) joined Senate conservatives and impeachment managers from the House of Representatives in a press conference to discuss the importance of holding Secretary Mayorkas accountable for not faithfully executing the law. The senator emphasized the need for a full impeachment trial in the Senate to address the situation.
"I think the House managers did an extraordinary job of putting together a very convincing case against Alejandro Mayorkas," stated Senator Johnson, highlighting the efforts made to present a strong argument for holding a trial. He commended the House managers for their work in building a compelling case against the Secretary and stressed the necessity of a trial to address the issues at hand.
Regarding the gravity of the charges against Mayorkas, Senator Johnson expressed his concern over the impact of the Secretary's actions on national security and American lives. He pointed out the failures in enforcing the law, stating, "We had the border secure until President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas came into office and did not faithfully execute the law."
Furthermore, Senator Johnson raised the issue of Secretary Mayorkas's alleged dishonesty before Congress, stating, "Secretary Mayorkas has come repeatedly before Congress. And one of the charges is he's repeatedly lied to Congress." He highlighted the contrast between the actions taken by President Trump in addressing immigration challenges and the current situation, emphasizing the need for accountability.
In conclusion, Senator Johnson underscored the significance of allowing the House managers to present their case in a trial, stating, "And again, the Articles are pretty short. I don't think it’d have to take that much time, but I think they can make a very compelling case in a pretty short period of time. But we ought to be able to hear that case. And that's all we're asking for."
The call for a full impeachment trial in the Senate to address the alleged actions of Secretary Mayorkas continues to be a focal point for Senator Johnson and his colleagues as they seek accountability and justice in upholding the law.
