On Monday, U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), ranking member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, and U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) sent a letter to Kimberly Howell, Chairperson of the Integrity Committee within the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE). The letter followed allegations from whistleblowers suggesting that the committee may be inappropriately targeting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) for political reasons. The senators requested information related to the Integrity Committee’s ongoing investigations into the DHS OIG.

The DHS Inspector General, Dr. Joseph Cuffari, appointed by former President Donald Trump, has conducted multiple inspections into vulnerabilities at the southern border. Whistleblowers allege that these examinations by the Integrity Committee might be an attempt to hinder or delay efforts by the DHS OIG to expose policy failures under the Biden-Harris administration.

“[A]ny effort to obstruct, delay, or silence the DHS OIG, particularly for political purposes, is completely unacceptable,” wrote Senators Johnson and Scott.

Further details about their August 12, 2024 letter can be found in Breitbart.
