High school juniors in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) can now apply to Milwaukee's largest colleges and select Universities of Wisconsin with a single free application. This opportunity is part of the Milwaukee Direct Admit initiative, an effort by the M3 partnership, which includes MPS, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM). The aim is to simplify college applications and enhance educational opportunities for students in Milwaukee.
The announcement about this year's application window was made during a press conference held by the M3 partnership on November 19, 2024, at MacDowell Montessori School. Students have until May 1, 2025, to submit their applications.
The streamlined online process connects a student's MPS transcript directly to their chosen schools without requiring attachments, essays, or recommendation letters. This initiative is particularly beneficial for first-generation college applicants seeking better access to higher education opportunities.
Applicants need only fill out a simple form with their name and MPS student ID number. They can choose to apply to MATC or UWM or both. Additionally, there is an option to apply to nine other UW schools through Direct Admit Wisconsin.
Students who apply are guaranteed acceptance into at least one school between MATC and UWM. Notifications from selected schools will be sent within about a month after applying. All applicants will receive acceptance notifications by September 2024 but are not obligated to attend any accepting institution unless they officially accept an offer and complete necessary enrollment forms upon successful high school graduation.
The application deadline is May 1, 2025. For assistance or more information, families can visit mpsmke.com/directadmit or contact school counselors or College and Career Center staff.
