On July 5 at noon, The Rave announced that Jadakiss, hip-hop star and freestyle rapper, will be the headline act of Hip-Hop Week MKE 2023. Jadakiss is the first act to be officially announced for this year’s Hip-Hop Week, which will run from August 21-27, 2023.

Hip-Hop Week is returning in 2023 after a multi-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Hip-Hop genre. Hip-Hop is largely considered to have originated in the Bronx in 1973, and Hip-Hop Week MKE will be one of many celebrations taking place nationally throughout the summer.

Alderman Khalif J. Rainey, founder of Hip-Hop Week MKE, expressed his excitement at the announcement of Jadakiss’ presence and his enthusiasm for the return of Hip-Hop Week.

“We celebrate Hip-Hop because it is more than just music: It is artistic expression, community connection, and a force for social progress all in one,” Alderman Rainey said. “That’s why this year’s celebrations will include not only live music from talented artists, but also a variety of other events to help inform our community members about such vital topics as civil engagement, personal wellness, and financial success. I am incredibly excited to host the return of Hip-Hop Week MKE, especially on the occasion of Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary. I am equally excited that we will have such a talented performer as Jadakiss performing during this year’s festivities, and I am confident that this year’s Hip-Hop Week will be the best one yet.”

Alderman Rainey also wanted to acknowledge the rapper Sauce Money (aka Todd Gaither) for his vital assistance in curating Hip-Hop Week MKE 2023.
