More than 3,200 graduates received their degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s 134th commencement held at the UWM Panther Arena on May 18. The event was marked by a range of emotions including joy, relief, expectation, and pride as students celebrated the completion of their academic journeys.
The university encouraged attendees and the wider community to experience highlights from the day through a variety of materials. These included photo galleries capturing moments of joy and pride among graduates, as well as videos featuring members of UW-Milwaukee’s Class of 2026 expressing readiness for future endeavors. Streaming video was also made available for both black and gold ceremonies, allowing families and friends who could not attend in person to relive the occasion.
In addition to celebrating all graduates, UW-Milwaukee shared photos showcasing outstanding students who secured employment prior to graduation. Several news outlets covered stories from commencement day: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on the overall celebration; WISN highlighted a graduate inspired by his father, Milwaukee’s fire chief, to focus on firefighters’ mental health; WITI featured a mother and son earning degrees together; Spectrum News examined how new graduates are entering a competitive job market.
Commencement remains an important milestone for both students and their families as they reflect on achievements and look ahead toward new opportunities.
