Katie Neuman, a 2004 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC), has been serving the institution in various capacities since her graduation. Currently, she is the Development Services Coordinator and has previously held roles as the Center for Arts and Performance House Manager and Concert Hall Tech.

Reflecting on her time at WLC, Neuman credits Professor Jim Matson with having a significant influence on her. “Professor Jim Matson taught me to see life through the lens of an artist,” she said. His mentorship helped her develop a passion for entertainment technology and design.

Neuman emphasizes the importance of supporting fine arts through scholarships, stating that these disciplines “enable individuals to express their experiences, highlight cultural differences, and enrich our daily lives.”

For current students, Neuman advises attending campus art events. “Attend a theatre performance, concert hall event, or art gallery opening,” she suggests. These experiences offer both a break from studying and an opportunity to engage with the arts.

She notes significant growth at WLC in developing Christian leaders through programs like the Christian Leadership Program and Hope Scholars. However, one constant remains: “The connections formed at WLC as a student will last long after graduation.”

A personal story reveals how deeply connected Neuman feels to WLC. During college years when her parents were missionaries abroad, she found support among peers and faculty who became like family to her.

Neuman shares a memorable moment from her college days involving participation in a production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Her suggestion led to an unexpected role during performances—a lesson in being cautious with ideas shared with directors.
