With more automotive companies investing in electric vehicles, the United States is in a position to become an industry leader which could mean good news for Wisconsin's economy and bring more jobs to the state while helping the environment.
It's just one of the reasons why state Rep. Christine Sinicki (D-Milwaukee) wants to see more support for electric vehicles in the state from both the public and Wisconsin leaders.
"Today I read that the heatwave in the Pacific Northwest would be impossible if there were no global warming," Sinicki wrote in a July 9 post on her Facebook page. "We all need to look for ways to do our part, but at all levels, including the state level!"
Sinicki wrote a guest column for The Cap Times on her push for electric vehicles in the state as a response to the climate crisis. She said it would create new jobs and boost the economy, all while creating cleaner air and an improved environment.
Sinicki also pointed out in The Cap Times column that she believed recent budget cuts to public transportation and additional charges for electric vehicles were both damaging and discriminatory.
According to Renew Wisconsin, the state currently has almost 400 public level 2 charging stations.
