Milwaukee Bucks took the victory in its sixth NBA finals game against the Suns.
“History made—The Milwaukee @Bucks are #NBAFinals Champions,” Mayor Tom Barret wrote in a tweet.
The Bucks came in full force with an effort to win their first NBA championship in 50 years. The team finished off the first quarter with a 13-point lead, 29-16, while the Suns shot 29%, equivalent to 7 for 24 during the quarter. Paul fired back with 10 points as the Phoenix took a quick lead of 47-42 during halftime. The point average is the lowest total for the team in the first quarter of this year’s playoffs.
The game served as the first appearance for the Bucks since 1974. The long-lost team last won a championship in 1971. Giannis Antetokounmpo, one of the most prominent players in the Bucks, scored 50 points, quickly putting the team ahead of its opponent, leading to a 105-98 win, ESPN reported.
The series brought suspense to its audience on behalf of the Bucks, who started the series with 2-0, ending the last game of the quarter with a 77-point tie. According to CNN, Bucks Coach Mike Budenholzer credited the Suns for their hard work on the court and spoke about the quality teamwork his team displayed.
"These players, they're champions every day," Budenholzer told NBA Finals ABC broadcaster. "Every day they come to the building they are champions. They've embraced getting better every day, they've embraced competing, they've embraced playing together. And it's made them champions tonight. I couldn't be more proud of them."
