An array of upcoming events in Milwaukee will honor Latinx filmmakers.
Milwaukee Film’s Hispanic Heritage month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 will feature programming, in-person screenings, and other events and media to celebrate Hispanic culture, according to Milwaukee Film's website.
The kick-off celebration happens Friday, Sept. 17, with a food truck park and plenty of music, according to Milwaukee Film.
"In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Milwaukee Film will feature a variety of both virtual and in-person programming that highlights Latinx filmmakers and traditions," Rep. Daniel Riemer said in a Twitter post. "Follow the link below to find out more about the events happening over the next month!"
Other upcoming events include Peruvian snacking and screening, the Afro-Latinx experience and discussion on social justice issues, according to Milwaukee Film.
The goal of the festival focuses on "elevating and honoring the work of Latinx filmmakers and traditions," according to the Milwaukee Film website.
Milwaukee Film said that the events will "highlight the beauty found in differing backgrounds, countries and heritages," according to the Milwaukee Film website. "Through Milwaukee Film’s Cine Sin Fronteras initiative, the local community is invited to embrace and explore all experiences within the Latinx diaspora including Chicanx, Latin American, Indigenous and Afro-Latinx."
