The Milwaukee Bucks recently appointed Lisa Byington to be their new full-time TV play-by-play announcer, the first female to do so for a men’s professional sports team.

Byington has background in sports broadcasting, play-by-play announcing for NCAA teams and experience with national networks, according to NBA.com.

"I am honored, humbled and beyond excited for this opportunity and to get this started," Byington wrote in a Sept. 15 Twitter post.

This is not Byington’s only "first." She was also the first female play-by-play announcer for a Big Ten college game in 2017 and in March 2021 she was also the first female to do voice play-by-play for the men’s NCAA basketball tournament.

"We are so excited to welcome Lisa to the Bucks family and to bring such a talented play-by-play announcer to our broadcast team," Peter Feigin, Milwaukee Bucks team president said, according to NBA.com "While we appreciate the significance of selecting Lisa, and we celebrate this historic moment, Lisa earned this position based on her extraordinary skills and experience. We look forward to Lisa becoming the voice of the Bucks."

A Michigan native, Byington previously played basketball and soccer player at Northwestern University.
