Wisconsin, like much of the country, has turned the tide in terms of COVID-19 numbers, finally stemming the tide of the surge related to the omicron variant.
Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services reported 2,491 new confirmed cases on Jan. 30, according to a report on Fox11. That was the lowest number of new cases since Christmas Day. The seven-day average of new cases fell in tandem to 5,926, its lowest level since Dec. 30.
As the number of new cases has fallen, so, too, have other statistics related to the coronavirus. Test positivity dipped below 20% early this week, hitting its lowest point since Dec. 28. The positivity rate had peaked Jan. 10 when 29.3% of tests came back positive.
Hospitalizations increased slightly on Jan. 31, bucking a downward trend. The Wisconsin Hospital Association told Fox11 that 1,579 coronavirus patients were in hospitals. That was an increase of 15 over Jan. 30’s numbers but down 351 from seven days earlier.
Since the pandemic started in early 2020, Wisconsin has reported more than 1.3 million COVID-19 cases and 12,453 deaths through Jan. 31.
The national trend, which surged over the past couple of months with the appearance of the omicron variant, has also been headed downward since peaking in mid-January.
