A new district focused on family pets is developing in Milwaukee.

"When we learned about the dog park project, we began exploring the larger opportunity to develop a true 'dog district' where people and their pets can gather along the river at the nexus of where the Historic Third Ward and Downtown meet," Tom Nieman, president of Fromm Family Pet Food, recently told the Milwaukee City Wire. "We see this as a natural fit for us and a game changer for the City of Milwaukee."

Foxtown Brewing, a company based in Mequon, recently announced that they will be opening a taproom in downtown Milwaukee; a FOX6 News report said. They will be developing a vacant lot in the city’s third ward on the northeast corner of St. Paul and Plankinton avenues. It will be directly on the Milwaukee River and right next to the newly proposed dog park.

The new development will be called Foxtown Landing and will feature a multistory building that will have a taproom and distillery, along with a restaurant that includes plenty of outdoor pet-friendly spaces looking out over the river. A rooftop patio and balcony are also included in the plans for the proposed dog park.

The off-leash dog park proposed for right next door to the development would be on a vacant lot that runs under the I-794 freeway along the Milwaukee River. Fromm Family Pet Foods has stepped in as the main sponsor for the development. Fundraising continues for the 1.4-acre plot, with a timeline soon to be announced to hopeful residents.
