The Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee at its next meeting on Tuesday, June 13 at 9 a.m. will discuss file #230171 – a resolution directing the Department of City Development, the Department of Neighborhood Services, the Assessor’s Office, and necessary City departments to make recommendations relating to regulations of short-term rental alternatives to hotels in the city of Milwaukee. The file, sponsored by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs and co-sponsored by Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr., seeks ways to better regulate short-term rental alternatives such as Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway, or investment properties without permanent occupants that are made continuously available for short-term rentals.
“In recent years, short-term property rentals lasting fewer than 30 days have become increasingly popular alternatives to hotels, motels, or other more traditional establishments,” said Alderwoman Coggs. “With Milwaukee’s vibrant summer season upon us, and other notable events on the horizon where these short-term rentals may be heavily utilized, we should explore what the City can and should do to better regulate these types of properties.”
The file further states that all departments shall submit a report to the Common Council within 60 days of the date of adoption.
The Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee meeting will be streamed live on the City Channel (channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse in the City of Milwaukee) and via streaming video on the city website at city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
