Alderman Khalif J. Rainey is inviting area neighbors to attend one of two upcoming opportunities for residents to provide input on the new murals coming to Cawker Park located at 2929 N. 30th St. The park is soon to be renamed Al Jarreau Park in honor of the late great legendary musician born in Milwaukee, and with the renaming will be a new image as well.
Artist Tia Richardson will use ideas from residents along with the legacy of Jarreau’s music to draw inspiration for the design that will include a new fence mural and basketball court mural. It is anticipated the murals will be installed in July.
The first listening session (for those ages 18 and up) will take place on Wednesday, June 21 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the Moody Park Pavilion, 2201 W. Auer Ave. The second listening session (for all ages) will take place on Friday, June 23 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. also at the Moody Park Pavilion. Both listening sessions are open to the public and light snacks will be provided.
The project is a City of Milwaukee Parks project in collaboration with Milwaukee County Parks, the Dominican Center, Amani United and Safe & Sound.
