U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) recently teamed up with U.S. Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and seven other Senate GOP colleagues to introduce a resolution aimed at combating reckless government spending. Speaking on the issue, Sen. Johnson emphasized the detrimental impact of earmarks on the national budget, stating, “Earmarks are the gateway drug to more massive deficit spending.”

In a statement, Sen. Johnson expressed concern over the bipartisan support for earmarks, criticizing the allocation of billions of dollars despite claims of fiscal responsibility. He warned against burdening future generations with excessive debt, asserting, “America cannot afford a wish list upwards of $12 billion that further mortgages our children’s futures and masquerades as responsible spending.”

The resolution, which also includes Senators Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), John Barrasso, M.D. (R-Wyo.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Rand Paul, M.D. (R-Ky.), and Steve Daines (R-Mont.), aims to address the issue of earmarks and curb extravagant government expenditures.

For those interested, the full text of the resolution can be accessed here.
