WASHINGTON– On Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) addressed the 'Weaponization of U.S. Government' Symposium at the Heritage Foundation, shedding light on the federal government's actions during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a conversation with Children’s Health Defense President Mary Holland, Sen. Johnson emphasized the need for Congressional oversight in such critical times.
Reflecting on the government's response to the pandemic, Sen. Johnson criticized the decisions made, stating, "nothing we did during COVID made sense whatsoever. It was all insane." He highlighted the focus on vaccine development and the increasing number of doses administered, pointing out the lack of liability for drug manufacturers as a driving factor.
Drawing parallels with President Eisenhower's farewell address warnings, Sen. Johnson mentioned the dangers of the military-industrial complex and the manipulation of scientific research for public policy purposes. He stressed the importance of not jeopardizing future generations and cautioned against inducing fear and hate in society.
Regarding the role of Congress in oversight, Sen. Johnson expressed concern about the lack of seriousness in monitoring government activities. He revealed the inadequacy of resources allocated for oversight, lamenting, "We've got five staff members to do oversight over millions of government employees."
Sen. Johnson's remarks at the Heritage Foundation event underscored the critical need for transparency and accountability within the federal government, especially in times of crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
