The University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) is now accepting applications. Milwaukee Public Schools ninth-grade students should apply by September 27, 2024, to participate in the program throughout their high school years.
Family information sessions will be held virtually on Zoom:
- Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
The PEOPLE program began in 1999 with an initial cohort of 66 high school students from Milwaukee. It aims to prepare students, particularly those who are first-generation and/or low-income, for college readiness and admission to UW System universities, focusing on UW–Madison.
The program is available only to ninth graders and is offered in most Milwaukee Public Schools high schools. Accepted students are assigned a precollege advisor and receive support throughout their high school years. This includes free after-school tutoring, advising sessions, and tours of UW System campuses. Additionally, students receive assistance with the college application process and scholarship information.
Upon graduation, participants attend PEOPLE Summer University (PSU), where they live on campus and engage in core subject preparation, career exploration, ACT testing, placement tests, and more.
Students accepted into UW–Madison through the PEOPLE program may be eligible for a four-year tuition scholarship and support services from the PEOPLE College Scholars Program.
For more information or if unable to attend the virtual sessions, contact the PEOPLE office at (608) 262-7415. The application deadline is September 27, 2024.
