The Milwaukee women's tennis team faced a challenging match against Chicago State on Saturday at H-F Racquet and Fitness in Homewood, Illinois. The Panthers, with a record of 7-11 overall and 1-3 in the Horizon League, narrowly missed securing the doubles point. This setback allowed the Cougars to gain momentum, ultimately winning five out of six singles matches for a 6-1 victory.

"Another battle that didn't go our way today," said Milwaukee head coach Mark Goldin. He praised Chicago State's coach Jack Barton, noting their long-standing competition over 14 years and commending Barton's team's preparation and mental toughness.

In doubles play, Milwaukee's Nadiia Konieva and Babette Burgersdijk maintained their perfect league record by defeating Manuella Eloundou and Nia Cooper with a score of 7-6 (7-1). Iva Stejskalova and Emilia Durska came close to clinching another point but lost in a tight contest, 7-6 (8-6).

"I am proud of how hard the girls fought today," Goldin remarked. "Now that we have seen the top teams in our conference, I am confident that we can prepare for each match individually and win at the Horizon League Tournament."

In singles action, Emilia Durska was successful for Milwaukee, overcoming Nia Cooper with scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 position. Evelina Anastasi nearly secured another win but fell short with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 at No. 6.

"We will use this week to prepare for our remaining two conference matches next weekend and our end goal all year of winning the Horizon Tournament," Goldin added. "We are all pumped to get back to practice this week."

The Panthers will conclude their regular season on the road next week against Northern Kentucky and IUPUI. They will first face Northern Kentucky on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.

Chicago State won both singles and doubles competitions decisively:

Singles results included victories by Manuella Eloundou over Babette Burgersdijk (6-4, 6-0), Katarina Dukic over Nadiia Konieva (6-1, 6-0), Sofiya Sedovich over Laure Razet (6-4, 7-5), Amina Taibi over Sara Simonova (6-0, 6-1), while Helin Alvarez defeated Evelina Anastasi (4-6, 6-4, 10-3).
