The Milwaukee Panthers made significant strides on the second day of the 2024 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Conference Championships in Indianapolis. The team broke three program records and achieved three podium finishes.
Jay Jensen set a new program record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:26.87, surpassing the previous record of 4:28.70 from 2016. Jensen narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth. In the consolation final of the same event, Jackson Hodek, Konnor Pilger, and Vince Chiappetta finished second, sixth, and eighth respectively.
In the 50 freestyle preliminaries, Ben Lorenz tied a program record with a time of 20.12 seconds while Charlie House set a new freshman record at 20.20 seconds. Both advanced to the championship heat where Lorenz finished seventh and House eighth.
The men's 200 freestyle relay team—comprising House, Jensen, Lorenz, and Jackson Ahrens—set a new MKE record with a time of 1:20.45 despite finishing fourth.
Janelle Schulz secured second place in the women's 50 freestyle with a time of 23.22 seconds. Her teammates Carly Plate, Noelle Bryan, Grace Mayes, and Brielle Laube also performed well in the consolation final.
Lilly Nesson claimed third place in the women's 500 freestyle with a time of 4:56.16. Antoni Haupt finished eighth in this race while Grace Hudson placed twelfth overall.
The women's 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Plate, Mayes, Bryan, and Schulz earned third place with a time of 1:33.59.
In other events, Erika Thomas finished fourth in the women's 200 IM final while Katherine Hackett and Johanna Edgren took sixth and seventh places respectively.
Adam St. John and Ben Stitgen reached the championship final for men's 1-meter diving competition; St. John finished sixth while Stitgen placed seventh.
Victor Kostov concluded his performance by placing eighth in the consolation final for men's 200 IM.
Currently standing second overall with 243 points are Milwaukee women behind Oakland's leading score of 325 points; Milwaukee men are positioned fourth overall after two days into this meet trailing behind IUPUI (279), Oakland (267), Cleveland State (202).
